In 1977, Lawrence Crawford Association for Exceptional Citizens was a dream shared by a group of parents and individuals who were concerned about adults with developmental disabilities living in Lawrence and Crawford Counties, not receiving the support, education and training that they needed. Because of this valiant community effort, LCAEC was launched in the Ruritan Building located in Chauncey, Illinois. Over the years, facility expansions allowed us to eventually move from the Chauncey facility to provide local services in the Lawrenceville and Robinson communities.  Currently, in addition to Community Day Services in Lawrenceville and Robinson, we offer residential services for seven individuals at our CILA home in Robinson.

By attending Community Day Services, our consumers have a support system that looks out for their total well-being. They are in an environment where they are accepted,  encouraged, treated with respect and offered challenges that build their skills and abilities. Our consumers receive job support and training, educational instruction,  support with daily living skills and decision making,  and medical support for health issues and healthy living awareness. Community Day Services allow opportunities for our consumers to become more independent and ready to be part of our community.

LCAEC is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of individuals representing both Lawrence and Crawford Counties.
