Lawrence/Crawford Association for Exceptional Citizens
Program Services

We provide the following services via our sheltered workshop program:

  • Evaluation
    • LCAEC provides a full-range assessment of a person's capabilities. Once individuals have been evaluated, they are placed in an appropriate program. After placement, individuals may advance to higher programs as skills improve. If clients are in need of outside services, they will be assisted by our agency.
  • Developmental training
    • This is a program which is designed to comprehensively prepare adults with developmental disabilities for community integration at the level that is least restrictive and most meaningful for each individual. It promotes acquisition of positive skills and behaviors in the following areas of major life activity: self-care, language/communication, learning, mobility/motor development, self-direction, capacity for independent living and productivity.
  • Work activities
    • Services are provided for personal living, socialization/communication, and community living skills; vocational training; sensory stimulation; and informal counseling. The program is separated into four levels: Basic, Regular, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each individual is placed in an appropriate program and may advance to higher programs as skills improve.
  • Work adjustment training
    • This program is designed to focus on training the client who desires work in either the Extended Program or in the community. L/CAEC provides intense work/vocational training to prepare the client for either type of employment.
  • Extended employment
    • This program is reserved for those clients who possess high productivity and a good work attitude. It is the highest working level that an individual can reach within L/CAEC's Regular Work Program.
  • Job-seeking skills
    • L/CAEC trains employees capable and desiring of community employment through vocational training and job skills classes.
  • Senior program
    • L/CAEC also offers a program of those ready for the retirement transition. Seniors have the flexibility to choose their level of work participation, with provisions being available for leisure, social, recreational, and community activities.
