~ What We Do ~

Sheltered Workshop

We provide the following services via our sheltered workshop program:

Evaluation - LCAEC provides a full-range assessment of a person's capabilities. Once individuals have been evaluated, they are placed in an appropriate program. After placement, individuals may advance to higher programs as skills improve. If clients are in need of outside services, they will be assisted by our agency.

Developmental Training - This is a program which is designed to comprehensively prepare adults with developmental disabilities for community integration at the level that is least restrictive and most meaningful for each individual. It promotes acquisition of positive skills and behaviors in the following areas of major life activity: self-care, language/communication, learning, mobility/motor development, self-direction, capacity for independent living and productivity.

Work Activities - Services are provided for personal living, socialization/communication, and community living skills; vocational training; sensory stimulation; and informal counseling. The program is separated into four levels: Basic, Regular, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each individual is placed in an appropriate program and may advance to higher programs as skills improve.

Work Adjustment Training - This program is designed to focus on training the client who desires work in either the Extended Program or in the community. LCAEC provides intense work/vocational training to prepare the client for either type of employment.

Extended Employment - This program is reserved for those clients who possess high productivity and a good work attitude. It is the highest working level that an individual can reach within LCAEC's Regular Work Program.

Job-Seeking Skills - LCAEC trains employees capable and desiring of community employment through vocational training and job skills classes.

Senior Program - LCAEC also offers a program of those ready for the retirement transition. Seniors have the flexibility to choose their level of work participation, with provisions being available for leisure, social, recreational, and community activities.

Production

LCAEC operates its production as Lawrence Crawford Enterprises out of two production facilities - a 10,080 sq. ft. building in Lawrenceville and a 10,260 sq. ft. building in Robinson.  LCAEC provides free transportation to and from the workshop for their client employees.

Hiring the handicapped is good business!  Our employees need job training, and we need your help in providing work for them.  If you have production needs, it can be profitable to you to discuss these needs with our staff.

Our production program utilizes subcontract work and direct services to the community and the surrounding areas.  Our client employees perform the work and are paid on a piece rate or hourly basis.  We GUARANTEE the quality of our work. Services included are:

Respite Services

This program allows the primary caregiver time away from the developmentally disabled person by providing short term care by qualified individuals. Care can be given in-home or in a nearby facility. There is no fee for in-home care. Social Security benefits supplement the costs of out-of-home respite. This program is available for Lawrence or Crawford County residents who have developmental disabilities and live at home. Actual provision of service depends upon the availability of service providers and funding limitations. When a request cannot be met by the LCAEC Respite Program, every effort will be made to link families with alternate resources.
